OUR UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST PRINCIPLES
(IN LANGUAGE FOR CHILDREN)

  • We believe that each and every person is important.
  • We believe that all people should be treated fairly.
  • We believe that our churches are places where all people are accepted and where we keep on learning together.
  • We believe that each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life.
  • We believe that everyone should have a vote about things that concern them.
  • We believe in working for a peaceful, fair and free world.
  • We believe in caring for our planet earth.
Reverend Dr. Tracey Robinson-Harris - Interim Minister
Annie Giddings - Director of Religious Education

Care for Infants and Toddlers

Nursery Care is provided for infants and toddlers up to 3 years old. The nursery offers a safe, fun space for babies and young toddlers, supervised by a loving caretaker who is available each week. In addition, our volunteer "baby rockers", those in the congregation who love babies, are always ready to lend a hand. The nursery is available from 10:15 to 11:45 each Sunday.

Children Three Years and Older

Children three years and older begin their Sunday morning in the sanctuary at 10:30, proceeding to classes after the story. To insure their safety, all children will be with their parents during this intergenerational worship time.

Registration begins September 11 and is ongoing. The registration fee is $15 per child (max. $35 per family). Scholarships are always available; please speak to the Minister or the Director of Religious Education.

CURRICULUM

In addition to age specific curriculum, independent lessons on each of the UU Principles will be interspersed throughout the church year, as well as a monthly children’s chapel where children will plan and participate in their own service in their worship space.

Three to Five Year Olds: We Are Many, We Are One

Unitarian Universalist curriculum that teaches preschoolers about their religious community and traditions while giving them the opportunity to learn and the freedom to discover and express their uniqueness.

Six to Ten Year Olds: Love Will Guide Us

In this curriculum, from the Tapestry of Faith curricula through the Unitarian Universalist Association, participants learn to seek guidance in life through the lens of our Unitarian Universalist Sources, with an emphasis on love.

Eleven and Twelve Year Olds: The Questing Year

This curriculum engages participants in four quests - the Mystery Quest, the Inner Quest, the Action Quest, and the UU Quest - connected through social action and spiritual search and designed to help them seek and develop their own answers to deep life questions about human faith and the web of all existence.

Youth Group Chalices

Youth Group Chalices

Senior Youth Group

This year, the Senior Youth Group at FUUSM accepts teens in grades 8, 9, and 10. It will be a year of bonding and communication activities, looking at how to handle a wide variety of daily-life situations, and continued discussion on what it means to be a UU. We hope to attend a UU Youth Conference or plan an overnight retreat. The group meets 2 times per month on Sunday evenings.

Purposes of the Religious Education Program

To develop a deeper understanding of Unitarian Universalism and what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist.

To explore the beliefs, traditions and cultures of our world so that we will be aware and respectful of its religions and rich social diversity.

To build within our church a sense of community where exploring and learning are pleasant and enjoyable.

To provide an environment where it is physically, emotionally and intellectually safe to explore who we are and what we think.

To encourage all of us to enjoy, appreciate, and care for the natural world.

To be involved in the work towards peace and justice.

To promote life-long learning and spiritual growth.

To balance fun, worship, learning, leadership, and service.

We believe in lifespan education - Ask to see our adult education, Chalice Thursday listing.
