OUR UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST PRINCIPLES
(IN LANGUAGE FOR CHILDREN)

  • We believe that each and every person is important.
  • We believe that all people should be treated fairly.
  • We believe that our churches are places where all people are accepted and where we keep on learning together.
  • We believe that each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life.
  • We believe that everyone should have a vote about things that concern them.
  • We believe in working for a peaceful, fair and free world.
  • We believe in caring for our planet earth.

Care for Infants and Toddlers

Nursery Care is provided for infants and toddlers up to 3 years old. The nursery offers a safe, fun space for babies and young toddlers, supervised by a loving caretaker who is available each week. In addition, our volunteer "baby rockers", those in the congregation who love babies, are always ready to lend a hand. The nursery is available from 10:15 to 11:45 each Sunday.

Children Three Years and Older

Children three years and older begin their Sunday morning in the sanctuary at 10:30, proceeding to classes after the story. To insure their safety, all children will be with their parents during this intergenerational worship time.

Registration begins September 7 and is ongoing. The registration fee is $10 per child (max. $25 per family). Scholarships are always available; please speak to the Minister or the Acting Director of Religious Education.

Three to Five Year Olds: Chalice Children

Based on the premise that children learn best through experience, this program helps nurture spiritual growth, creativity and a sense of community through imaginative activities and rituals such as rhymes and fingerplays. Includes 36 sessions (plus 5 alternates) that introduce children to concepts such as birth and death, dreams and the natural world. Highly adaptable.

Six to Eight Year Olds: Holidays and Holy Days

Visiting the religions of the world (including UUism) through celebrations! Young people will celebrate their way through the familiar holy days, but also Divali, John Murray day, Posadas, Powamu, No Ruz, and Buddha’s birthday.

Nine to Eleven Year Olds: Holidays and Holy Days

Visiting the religions of the world (including UUism) through celebrations! Young people will celebrate their way through the familiar holy days, but also Divali, John Murray day, Posadas, Powamu, No Ruz, and Buddha’s birthday.

Junior Youth Group

All young people ages 11-13 are invited to attend and find out why UU youth groups become such an important part of growing up. The group meets 2 times per month on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Youth Group

The Senior Youth Group is for youth ages 14-17 and meets 2 times per month for friendship, service, worship and some silliness. Youth group members plan their meetings and select their projects with the help of their advisors. Traditional activities include the Walk for Hunger, camp-outs, service projects and a Sunday morning senior youth-led worship. Our senior youth are also welcome to assist in the church school program as child care providers, assistants and teachers. In addition, senior youth are encouraged to join our adult worshipping community on Sunday mornings and to participate in adult religious education classes and choir as their interests dictate.

Purposes of the Religious Education Program

To develop a deeper understanding of Unitarian Universalism and what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist.

To explore the beliefs, traditions and cultures of our world so that we will be aware and respectful of its religions and rich social diversity.

To build within our church a sense of community where exploring and learning are pleasant and enjoyable.

To provide an environment where it is physically, emotionally and intellectually safe to explore who we are and what we think.

To encourage all of us to enjoy, appreciate, and care for the natural world.

To be involved in the work towards peace and justice.

To promote life-long learning and spiritual growth.

To balance fun, worship, learning, leadership, and service.

We believe in lifespan education - Ask to see our adult education, Chalice Thursday listing.
